Bharathan Balasubramanian

Before his poker career, Bharathan Balasubramanian built a strong foundation in quantitative finance. He earned a Master of Science in Computational Finance (MSCF) from Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business in 2009. Professionally, he worked as an Equity Derivatives Trader at Nomura International, an Assistant Trader Intern at Stuyvesant Trading Group, and a Management Trainee at ICICI Bank, where he structured foreign exchange and interest rate hedging solutions. His early experience as a System Software Engineer at American Megatrends also gave him technical skills in C++ and VBA.

Balasubramanian's first major recorded live result came in January 2025 at the Dutch Open Poker Series in the Netherlands. He finished 4th in Event #01 – the €250 Dutch Open Cup, which attracted 1,464 entries and a total prize pool of €302,745. His payout of €17,802 marked his largest cash to date and showcased his ability to navigate large fields.

In March 2025, he also participated in the King's Resort KM NLH High Roller (€550 buy-in, €186,065 prize pool) in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, though his exact finishing position was not recorded.

Balasubramanian's disciplined approach likely stems from his quantitative background. With expertise in option pricing and risk modeling, he brings a mathematical mindset to poker, excelling in deep-stacked tournament play and hand-reading. While primarily a live tournament player in Europe, his adaptability across formats reflects his analytical training.
