Diego Ostrovich

Diego Ostrovich, an Argentine professional poker player, began his career in the online poker scene under the nickname "El Motron." He played professionally for 15 years, competing in both online and live tournaments, and quickly established himself as a formidable force in international events.

WSOP Online Event #34 – Second Place ($86,972)

In 2020, Ostrovich came incredibly close to winning a WSOP bracelet for Argentina, finishing second in Event #34 of the WSOP Online series on online poker. The event was a $525 Super Turbo Bounty tournament with 2,214 entries and a prize pool of $1,107,000. Ostrovich entered the heads-up match as the chip leader against Japan's Shoma "pp_syon" Ishikawa but ultimately fell short, earning $86,972—comprising $27,710 in bounties and $59,263 in prize money. This result matched the best WSOP finish by an Argentine player at the time.

GGMasters High Roller – Fifth Place ($44,629)

In the same year, Ostrovich continued his strong run by finishing fifth in the GGMasters High Roller on online poker. The $1,000 buy-in event attracted 911 players, and Ostrovich earned $44,629 for his deep run.

SCOOP 2020 Event 18-M – Fourth Place ($22,672)

Earlier in 2020, Ostrovich placed fourth in Event 18-M of the SCOOP series, taking home $22,672. This result, along with his other successes, helped him accumulate over $315,000 in online tournament winnings during 2020.

After 15 years of professional poker, Ostrovich stepped away from the game in 2025 to build software products using AI tools. He wrote a book titled Build Your Stack, which applies poker concepts like expected value, bankroll management, and decision-making under uncertainty to software development and entrepreneurship. The book was released on Kindle and is aimed at anyone with a mind trained on uncertainty.

Ostrovich is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is a father of two.
