Early Life and Background

Freddy Deeb (born Kassem Ibrahim Deeb on November 27, 1955, in Beirut, Lebanon) attended Utah State University to study mechanical engineering. When the Lebanese Civil War broke out in 1975, he lost contact with his parents—who had been sending him money for his education—for two years. Unable to work due to his student visa restrictions, he turned to gambling to support himself. He was eventually forced to leave school just 12 credits short of graduation.

World Series of Poker Success

Deeb won his first WSOP bracelet in 1996 at the $5,000 Deuce to Seven Draw event, earning $146,250 and besting a field that included Doyle Brunson, Gabe Kaplan, and David Grey. He later achieved his career-defining victory at the 2007 WSOP when he won the $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. event, taking home $2,276,832. During five-handed play, Deeb was down to his last $365,000 in chips but staged a remarkable comeback. He has 15 WSOP final tables and 41 cashes, with total WSOP earnings exceeding $3.7 million.
