James Bord

James Bord (born 1981, nickname "Bordy") is an English entrepreneur and former professional poker player from Stanmore, England. He is best known for winning the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, becoming the first British champion of that event. His lifetime live tournament winnings total $4,304,535, placing him 21st on the England All Time Money List.

Bord started playing poker in his mid-20s after leaving a banking career at Citigroup. He describes himself as a "mixed game cash player," preferring high-low games and often playing in $300–$600 or $400–$800 cash games in Las Vegas. While tournaments are not his primary focus, he has achieved significant success in them.

Major Achievements

• 2010 WSOP Europe Main Event (£10,000 No-Limit Hold'em): First place for £830,401 ($1,313,611). He won the final hand holding pocket tens against Fabrizio Baldassari's pocket fives.
• 2016 Monte-Carlo One Drop Extravaganza: Fourth place for $2,315,044 — his largest single cash.
• WSOP Results: One bracelet (2010 WSOP Europe), nine total WSOP cashes. His best non-title WSOP finish was sixth in the 2008 $1,500 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw ($12,997).
• Other notable cash: Second place in the Aussie Millions Shootout – Invitational for over $140,000.

In recent years, Bord has ventured into football club ownership through his company Short Circuit Science, which applies data analytics to sports.

• September 2024: Acquired a minority stake in Spanish Segunda División club Córdoba CF.
• January 2025: Along with Evan Sofer, completed a takeover of Scottish club Dunfermline Athletic, acquiring 99.84% of the club.
• December 2025: Named preferred bidder for Sheffield Wednesday (EFL Championship) but his consortium withdrew the bid on February 25, 2026.

Bord was born in 1981 and originally from Stanmore, England. After leaving Citigroup, he turned to poker full-time. He now splits his time between London and the United States. His nickname at the tables is "Bordy," and he is known for a calm, analytical approach.
