Kasim Mahmood

Kasim Mahmood was born in Bangladesh and moved to the United States at the age of 14. He settled in the Houston suburb of Sugarland, Texas, where he later owned a furniture store. Mahmood began playing poker recreationally before deciding to pursue it professionally in 2004. He is a former furniture retailer turned poker pro.

Mahmood's first World Series of Poker (WSOP) attendance was in 2003, and he recorded his first cash in 2004. He played high-stakes cash games alongside tournaments, with Pot-Limit Omaha being his favorite game. Over the years, he accumulated 18 WSOP in-the-money finishes and four final table appearances prior to his breakthrough.

Mahmood's career-defining moment came in 2010 at the $10,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em Championship (Event #35). He defeated a field of 256 players, winning nine straight matches over four days. The final best-two-out-of-three match against German pro Ernst Schmejkal was grueling: the first match lasted 6 hours and 20 minutes, the third-longest heads-up finale in WSOP history. The duel extended to an unscheduled fourth day, where Mahmood won the second match in just over an hour. For the victory, he collected $625,674 and his first WSOP gold bracelet.

With this win, Mahmood became the first WSOP champion born in Bangladesh. His career WSOP earnings now total $1,151,967, including one win, four final tables, and 18 cashes. He is recognized as a skilled heads-up player and remains active in both tournaments and cash games.

Mahmood is known for his patience and adaptability, especially in heads-up play. He credits his success in Pot-Limit Omaha heads-up for giving him the confidence to excel in No-Limit Hold'em. His style combines disciplined aggression with a deep understanding of opponent tendencies.
