Paulo Cicero Macedo
Brazil
Paulo Cicero Macedo is a Brazilian professional poker player from Campina Grande, Paraíba. A former doctor, he left medicine to pursue poker after discovering the game in Australia. He is the founder of the Arrocha Poker Team and achieved his career-best result of R$215,000 as runner-up in the KSOP Iguazú Main Event in 2023.
Early Life and Background
Paulo Cicero Macedo, known in the poker community as "PC", was born in Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. He originally trained as a doctor and moved to Melbourne, Australia, to study entrepreneurship and validate his medical diploma. While there, he began playing cash games at Crown Casino to support himself, eventually shifting his focus entirely to poker.
Poker Career
After returning to Brazil, Paulo worked as a doctor for two years while continuing to play poker. He then decided to abandon medicine and pursue a full-time poker career, a decision strongly supported by his father, Almir Macedo, a regular in Brazilian poker circuits.
In 2022, Paulo served as the coach of the Seleção Paraibana de Poker. On June 20, 2023, he achieved his biggest live cash to date by finishing as runner-up in the Main Event of the KSOP Iguazú in Argentina. The tournament drew 738 players, and after a heads-up deal with Argentine Federico Tur, Paulo earned R$215,000.
Arrocha Poker Team
Paulo is the founder and principal partner of the Arrocha Poker Team, a group of about 50 players based primarily in Northeast Brazil. The team's name originated from his father's frequent exclamation "Arrocha" during poker sessions. The team includes players from Paraíba, Goiás, and São Paulo. Paulo emphasizes the importance of in-person connections and regularly brings team members to major events like the NPS Pixbet.
Legacy
Paulo's story is one of risk and reinvention, leaving a stable medical career to follow his passion for poker. His success on the South American circuit and his role in building a supportive poker community have made him a respected figure in Brazilian poker.
