Peter Vilandos

Peter Vilandos (born Panayote Vilandos) was born on May 30, 1940, in Greece. He immigrated to the United States at age 27 and settled in Houston, Texas. Despite having already earned a university degree in Greece, he chose to start a new life in the New World, ultimately achieving great success in poker.

Vilandos first cashed at the WSOP in 1993. He won his first gold bracelet in 1995 in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em event, taking home $148,500. In 1996, he finished 21st in the WSOP Main Event for $19,500.

In 2009, he won his second bracelet in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event, collecting $607,256. That same year, he also finished runner-up in a $1,000 No-Limit event. In 2012, he captured his third bracelet by winning the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em event for a massive $952,694.

As of the data, Vilandos had 21 WSOP cashes, 8 final table appearances, and over $2.4 million in WSOP earnings.

Vilandos also shone on the World Poker Tour (WPT): he placed 15th in the 2002 Five Diamond World Poker Classic and 21st in the 2003 World Poker Open. Additionally, he finished runner-up in the main event of the 1993 Jim Brady Mid-Month ($132,750) and won one event ($40,500), and placed 4th in the 1995 Hall of Fame Poker Classic.

His total live tournament earnings were $3,266,764, with WSOP accounting for $2,410,333.

Vilandos was known for his solid, tight-aggressive style, excelling at value betting post-flop using position and range advantages. He was skilled at reading opponents and analyzing psychology, showing strong survival skills in late tournament stages. Dubbed the "Silent Killer," he spoke little but acted decisively, adjusting his strategies flexibly according to different opponents.

Vilandos passed away on July 24, 2022, at the age of 82. The poker community mourned the loss of this three-time gold bracelet winner, whose success inspired many players of Greek descent to pursue poker careers.
