Ricardo Sousa first made a major impact on the international poker scene in March 2008 when he finished second in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Warsaw Main Event, earning $539,897. This remains his largest career cash and marked him as one of Portugal's most successful poker players at the time.

Following his runner-up performance in Warsaw, Sousa continued to perform well on the EPT circuit. In April 2008, he cashed in the EPT Grand Final Main Event, finishing 53rd for $46,484. The next year, he added another EPT cash at the PokerStars EPT Vilamoura Main Event, placing 19th for $15,126. These results solidified his reputation as a consistent contender in high-stakes tournaments.

Sousa has remained active in the 2020s, with notable results including a 33rd place finish in the €1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event at the 2026 Winamax Poker Tour Grand Finale ($2,251) and a 21st place in the €5,300 No-Limit Hold'em event at 2026 EPT Paris ($41,005). He also cashed in the €2,700 side event at the same festival for $14,915. In 2023, he took 25th in a $400 event at the Wynn Fall Classic for $1,098.

In addition to live tournaments, Sousa has recorded online cashes, including a 29th place in the 2025 GGMasters $150 for $3,367 and several min-cashes in WSOP Online events. His total recorded earnings across live and online events exceed $709,000, with 21 total cashes.

Ricardo Sousa is recognized as a pioneer of Portuguese poker, having achieved one of the country's first major EPT final tables. While he has not yet captured a bracelet or major title, his longevity and consistent results across different formats demonstrate his skill and dedication to the game.
