Romain Lewis

Romain Lewis was born in Bordeaux, France. He started playing poker at age 10 after his parents gave him a deck of cards as a gift. Initially, he treated it as a family game, but later gained his first experience through Zynga Poker (a virtual currency game on Facebook) and gradually moved on to small cash games with friends. Friends he met at a table tennis club introduced him to the Bordeaux poker association Pokersphère. After turning 18, he began studying live poker systematically there, receiving guidance from players like Jonathan Therme.

Lewis's early tournament cashes came primarily within France. In the spring of 2017, he finished runner-up in the PokerStars Monte Carlo National Championship, winning €127,385 – his first major breakthrough. That same year, he cashed three times at the WSOP. In 2018, he earned three top-three finishes in Las Vegas and another top-three at WSOPE in Rozvadov. In 2019, he placed third in the online poker MILLIONS Europe, winning €428,000 – then the largest score of his career.

When the WSOP returned in 2021, Lewis won Event #76: $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty, claiming his first WSOP gold bracelet. He said afterward: "I've had many deep runs in the past few years, but the bracelet is not easy to get. It's been a dream for ten years and a goal for five or six. Achieving it made me ecstatic." This bracelet cemented his status as a top French player.

Lewis continues to achieve strong results in major events. In 2024, he finished fifth in WSOP Event #34: $2,500 Freezeout ($111,222) and fourth in the 2024 EPT Monte Carlo €3,000 Mystery Bounty (€79,950). In 2025, he placed 16th in WSOP Event #68: $3,000 NLH ($39,091) and 35th in the EPT Malta €2,700 Open High Roller (€7,140). In 2026, he finished 43rd in the WSOP Europe €2,750 Closer Turbo Bounty (€3,200). His total live tournament earnings exceed $4.3 million, ranking 17th on the French all-time money list.

Lewis is a professional member of Team Winamax and frequently appears on shows such as Inside the Mind of a Pro. He is considered one of the most talented players of the new generation in France, known for his aggressive style and mental fortitude. He also appeared on the poker reality show Big Brother, where he faced off multiple times against fellow prominent French player Pierre Calamusa.

Lewis leans toward an aggressive style, adept at using position and stack pressure. He often makes large raises and re-raises preflop to force mistakes from opponents; postflop, he can extract thin value and also execute big bluffs. He is highly adaptable, switching between tight-passive and loose-aggressive modes as needed. This style is especially effective in deep-stacked structures, allowing him to generate significant pressure and extract value.
