Montgomery first gained prominence in 2008 when he reached the final table of the World Poker Tour LA Poker Classic. The final table was one of the toughest in WPT history, featuring Phil Hellmuth, Nam Le, and eventual champion Phil Ivey. Montgomery finished in fifth place, earning just under $300,000.
