Shawn Buchanan was born on July 6, 1982, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He began playing poker online under the screen name "buck21" on PokerStars. His early online success included winning Event #19 of the 2007 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), a $530 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha tournament. Buchanan bested a field of 1,046 players to take home $97,262.78. This victory, along with consistent results, helped him build his bankroll and transition to live tournaments. He is also known by the nickname "The Cannon."
