Sirous Jamshidi

Sirous Jamshidi was born in Iran and later moved to the United States, settling in Broomall, Pennsylvania. He began playing poker in the early 2000s and quickly established himself as a formidable force in both live and online tournaments. His Iranian heritage has made him a notable minority representative in the poker world.

Jamshidi's breakout performance came in the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, where he finished 16th out of 8,773 players, earning $659,730. This remains his largest single cash. In 2007, he placed 4th in WSOP Event #7: Pot-Limit Omaha, winning $230,883. The following year, he finished 4th in WSOP Event #11: No-Limit Hold'em Shootout for $118,440. At the 2010 Borgata Winter Open, he came second in the $2 Million Championship, earning $367,794. In 2015, he placed 3rd in the WPT Borgata Poker Open $560 No-Limit Hold'em event for $139,376.

Jamshidi has also excelled in WSOP Circuit events. He won a WSOP Circuit ring at Harrah's Philadelphia in April 2013, finishing 4th out of 643 entries in a No-Limit Hold'em Re-entry event for $13,347. Earlier that year, he placed 8th in a Semi-turbo event for $1,521. In March 2011, he finished 2nd in a $350 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo at Caesars Atlantic City for $12,430. Overall, he has 19 WSOP cashes, including 9 final tables, and total WSOP earnings of $1,163,825.

In recent years, Jamshidi has shifted toward senior events. At the 2021 WSOP, he cashed in both the Seniors ($1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Seniors, finishing 769th for $1,601) and Super Seniors ($1,000 Super Seniors, 74th for $3,233). In 2023, he placed 91st in the $1,000 Super Seniors event for $3,385. He also had success at the 2020 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open, finishing 4th in a $1,560 No-Limit Hold'em $500 Bounty Semi-Turbo for $12,726, and 20th in a $400 Deepstack event for $1,333.

Jamshidi is known for an aggressive, mathematically precise style. He uses position and stack depth to apply pressure, as seen in a hand from the 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open: holding a strong hand, he check-raised the turn and called a river bet, but was beaten by trip sevens. Despite that setback, he demonstrated the calculated risk-taking that defines his game. Over his career, he has earned $2,017,077 in recorded tournaments, with 75 total cashes across live and online events.

In addition to his ring win at Harrah's Philadelphia in 2013, Jamshidi has numerous other WSOP Circuit cashes. These include a 7th-place finish in a six-handed event at Harrah's Philadelphia in April 2014 for $1,185, an 8th-place in a semi-turbo event in May 2013 for $1,521, and a 2nd-place in a $350 turbo at Caesars Atlantic City in March 2011 for $12,430. Overall, his WSOP Circuit earnings total $72,358 across 8 cashes.

During the $560 Deep-Stack NLHE Reentry at the 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open, Jamshidi played a key hand against Dave Eldridge. On a board of 7♠6♣2♠7♦, Jamshidi check-raised Eldridge's turn bet from 12,100 to 25,000, showing aggression. However, when the river brought a 3♣, Eldridge bet 33,300 and Jamshidi called. Eldridge showed 7-6 for trip sevens, beating Jamshidi's hand. The hand illustrates Jamshidi's willingness to apply pressure but also his tendency to make tough calls.
