Context: Term article: Bounty In the Money
Overview
Bounty In the Money (abbreviated as BIM) is a term in poker tournaments, specifically referring to a Bounty Tournament (Bounty Tournament) or Knockout Tournament where, after a player successfully enters the money (In the Money), in addition to the main event prize, they also receive additional bounties based on the number of opponents eliminated or fixed bounty rules. This concept combines "making the money" with "cashing bounties" and is an important strategic consideration for players in the middle stages of a tournament.
Rules and Calculation
- Bounty Structure: In a typical bounty tournament, part of each player's buy-in goes to the main prize pool and part to the bounty prize pool. When a player eliminates another player, they usually receive half of that opponent's bounty (immediate income), while the other half accumulates into the final bounty prize pool.
- BIM Conditions: Players must enter the money (i.e., reach a specified ranking) to collect both the main event prize and all bounties they have already earned. If a player is eliminated before making the money, they can only keep any bounties they have already earned (if any), but cannot withdraw the main prize pool money.
- Strategic Impact: The existence of BIM encourages players to chase bounties more aggressively near the money bubble, since bounties are paid out together with the main prize after making the money; during the bubble phase, players may play more conservatively to ensure they reach the money.
Relationship with ITM
BIM is a special form of ITM. Normal ITM only refers to obtaining the main event prize, while BIM adds a bounty dimension, making the rewards more tiered. Many online platforms use BIM as an independent statistical indicator to measure the profit potential of deep tournament stages.
Common Misunderstandings
- BIM is not equal to the "bounty zone" (i.e., the stage where bounties are guaranteed to be collected); the latter usually refers to directly obtaining bounties at any stage.
- Bounties obtained before BIM are usually credited instantly (common on online platforms), but only BIM status ensures that all prizes can be withdrawn.
