Consistent Line
Players repeatedly use the same betting patterns or action sequences in similar situations to build a stable image or balance their range.
Principle
A consistent line refers to a player always using the same bet sizing and action sequence (e.g., flop continuation bet, turn check-raise) on specific flops, turns, or rivers, against the same type of opponent. Its core purpose is to make one's range difficult for opponents to read, while avoiding information leakage due to variance.
Function
- Range Balancing: By adhering to a fixed pattern, forcing one's value hands and bluffs to follow the same route, preventing opponents from distinguishing strength through betting patterns.
- Image Management: Against nits, a consistent line can establish a predictable tight-aggressive image, inducing folds; against LAGs, it can counter their exploitative strategies.
- Reducing Decision Fatigue: In low-stakes or multi-way pots, a simplified action line lowers the probability of errors in complex situations.
Example
Typical scenario: On a dry flop (e.g., K-7-2 rainbow), a player always continuation bets 2/3 pot with top pair or better, while checking draws or air. This forms a consistent line from flop to turn.
Limitations
Overusing a consistent line can be identified and exploited by observant opponents (e.g., attacking weak ranges when the player checks). Therefore, high-level players deliberately introduce "deviations," such as adjusting bet frequency based on specific blockers.
