轻偷盲防守（Light Steal Defense）

Overview

Light steal defense is an aggressive defensive strategy in Texas Hold'em against steal attempts. Steal usually refers to raising with a wide range from a favorable position (such as the button) to try to take down the blinds directly. Normal blind defense ranges are usually tight, about 10-15% of hole cards; light steal defense expands the defense range to 20-30% or even wider, including more marginal hands like small to medium pairs, connectors, suited connectors, etc.

Applicable Scenarios

• When opponents frequently steal (e.g., steal rate over 40%), increase defense frequency to punish.
• Deep effective stacks (>40bb), allowing more post-flop play.
• Good post-flop skills yourself, able to leverage positional or range advantage.

Strategy Principle

By expanding the defense range, forcing the stealer to face more post-flop confrontations, reducing their steal EV. When defending, usually choose to call rather than raise to maintain range width; but in some situations, raising as a resteal can also be used as a balancing tool. Light steal defense needs to be adjusted according to opponent's post-flop tendencies: wider against less observant opponents, tighter against aggressive ones.

Pros and Cons

• Pros: Increases the cost of stealing, disrupts opponent's steal frequency; leverages range advantage to profit in small pots.
• Cons: May end up in a disadvantageous position post-flop (in the small blind), or become passive when facing a squeeze from the big blind.

Example

Suppose you are in the small blind with 50bb effective stacks, and the button player steals with a 40% range. Normal defense range is about 12%, e.g., 77+, AT+, KQ; light steal defense can add 56s, 98o, A2s and other hands to call, total defense range about 25%.

Relationship with GTO

In the GTO model, the opponent's steal frequency and the defender's defense range need to be balanced. Light steal defense deviates from GTO and is an exploitative strategy, requiring accurate judgment of opponent's leaks. Using it long-term against a balanced GTO opponent will instead increase your own losses.
