Position guide

PositionAction
UTGContext: Hand position UTG: 74o Fold immediately. 74o from UTG facing a 5-6 way pot is extremely difficult to hit a strong hand postflop and is easily outdrawn. Even if the flop hits a pair of 7s or 4s, the kicker is weak, making it hard to call a continuation bet. In the long run, entering the pot with 74o from UTG is -EV.
MPFold. MP still has 3-4 players yet to act. Although 74o has an equity advantage over pocket pairs, it's difficult to play post-flop. Unless the table is extremely passive and stacks are deep, entering the pot is not recommended.
COContext: Hand position CO: 74o Consider raising to steal the blinds, but be cautious. If no one has entered the pot before you, raise 2-3BB, hoping to take the blinds directly. If called, continue only if you flop two pair or trips, otherwise fold. Must fold facing a 3-bet.
BTNContext: Hand position BTN: 74o You can raise or limp. If the blinds are tight-passive, raise 2.5BB to steal; if the blinds are aggressive, limping to see the flop is an option. Continue if the flop hits top pair or an open-ended straight draw, otherwise fold. Manage the pot size and avoid being re-raised.
SBHand position SB: 74o Usually fold. The SB position is disadvantageous post-flop, and 74o has low equity against the big blind's defending range. If the big blind folds often, you can raise to steal the blinds; otherwise, just fold. Be cautious post-flop and avoid being passive.
BBContext: Hand position BB: 74o Defendable against a raise, but caution is required. If the raise is small (<3BB) and the opponent's range is wide, calling to see the flop is acceptable. If the flop hits top pair or a draw, re-raise; otherwise fold. Pay attention to the opponent's continuation bet frequency and avoid overcalling.

Postflop board textures

Context: Hand board label: 74o Dry low board (e.g. 7♣2♦9♠)

Context: Hand board strategy: 74o You hit top pair with a 7, but your kicker is a weak 4. However, on a dry board, your opponent is unlikely to have a draw. You can bet 1/2 to 2/3 of the pot for value and to protect your hand. If called, and the turn is safe, you can continue betting. If raised, you need to consider whether your opponent's range includes stronger 7x or overpairs, and be cautious about folding.

Context: Hand board label: 74o Wet connected board (e.g. 9♠8♠7♥)

Context: Hand board strategy: 74o Hitting bottom pair with a 7, but the board is very wet. Opponent has many straight draws or flush draws. It's advisable to check-call to control the pot. If opponent bets large, consider folding because your hand is easily outdrawn. On the turn, if you improve to two pair or trips, you can raise; otherwise, fold.

Context: Hand board label: 74o Paired board (e.g. K♠K♦7♣)

Context: Hand board strategy: 74o You hit a pair of sevens, but the board has a pair of Kings, reducing the value of your hand. If your opponent has a King, you are behind; if your opponent has no King, you are ahead but vulnerable to being outdrawn. It is advisable to check-call small bets and avoid large pots. If your opponent makes a large continuation bet, folding is the best option.

Context: Hand board label: 74o Flush draw board (e.g. A♠8♠3♠)

No flush draw, only bottom pair of 7s. The board is very dangerous; opponent may already have a flush or a flush draw. It's advisable to check-fold unless the opponent bets very small. If the turn brings a 7 or 4, consider raising, but be cautious.

Specific matchup notes

Context: Hand matchup: 74o 74o vs AKo: 43% preflop equity, but postflop AKo often hits top pair or draws, while 74o needs to make two pair or better to have an advantage. 74o vs QQ: 46% equity, QQ can easily become an overpair postflop, so 74o must be careful. 74o vs 88: 54% equity, but 88 may flop a set, and 74o falls behind if it only makes one pair. Key scenario: Flop 7-4-2, 74o makes two pair, opponent AKo has a straight draw, giving 74o about 83% equity. Flop 8-8-7, 74o makes trips, but opponent 88 has quads, giving 74o extremely low equity. Therefore, 74o is most valuable on dry boards when it makes two pair or trips, and should be cautious on wet boards.

MTT short-stack push/fold

Context: Hand push-fold: 74o 10BB: In BTN or CO, when no one has entered the pot before, you can shove to steal blinds because 74o has about 40% equity against random cards and the fold equity is sufficient. In SB, you can shove against the BB, but you need a high fold rate from the BB. Fold from other positions. 15BB: Only in BTN can you shove; if there is a limper in front, you can consider it too, but carefully. In CO, if the blinds are tight, you can raise to 2.5BB and shove over a 3-bet. 20BB: Not recommended to shove; you can raise to steal blinds, but fold to a re-raise. Overall, 74o is only suitable for aggressive blind stealing from late position when short-stacked, and requires a high opponent fold rate.

例如,公共牌为K-7-3-2-8,玩家A持KQ,玩家B持KJ,两人都有一对K,但A的踢脚是Q,B的踢脚是J,A胜出。
