Curtis King Ends Career Slump with WSOPC Cherokee Main Event Victory

Curtis King wins WSOPC Cherokee Main Event, earning $363,703 and his first gold ring after a tough year. He also secured a WSOP Paradise package.
American poker player Curtis King experienced a fairy tale in Cherokee, North Carolina, the kind every poker pro dreams of. After a year he called the worst of his career, he broke his losing streak by winning the WSOP Circuit Main Event, securing his first gold ring.
The Main Event with a $1,700 buy-in attracted a total of 1,681 entries, creating a massive prize pool of $2,546,715. In addition to a cash prize of $363,703, the winner also received a package for the December WSOP Paradise in the Bahamas.
This success is especially emotional for King, who just a few years ago claimed to have less than $5,000 in his account. “I feel incredibly blessed; it doesn't even feel real right now,” King said shortly after his triumph.
The turning point of the tournament happened during the play among the last three players when King 'stole' victory from the jaws of defeat. King went all-in with 4♦4♠ against Ryan D'Angelo's pair of K♣K♠. However, the board A♥2♦2♥3♥4♥ delivered a miraculous rescue for King at the last moment, knocking out D'Angelo in third place and giving King the momentum for the heads-up.
In the final hand of the event, King put Toby Boas all-in on a board of 9♠7♥4♥6♠. Boas surprisingly called with 5♦4♦, but King had 8♦8♥. The river K♦ changed nothing, allowing King to celebrate his biggest career win, which also pushed his total tournament earnings past the million-dollar mark.
