Pot odds measure the ratio of the cost of a call to the available pot you can win: Required Equity ≈ Call Amount ÷ (Pot + Call Amount + Opponent's Current Bet). When your drawing equity (first estimate using outs and the Rule of 2 and 4) is higher than this ratio, calling is +EV in the long run. It is the most fundamental mathematical threshold postflop and is often cross-checked with implied odds and SPR to determine whether it's worth continuing. Double-counting the opponent's current bet into the "pre-bet pot"; or calculating the probability for only one card on the flop but deciding to call all the way to the river. In multiway pots, failing to discount outs, leading to overestimating equity. During the bubble phase of a tournament, focusing only on Chip EV while ignoring ICM and effective stack pressure can turn a marginal draw into a mistake you think is a mandatory call. Also, don't treat solver frequencies as an infallible rule that doesn't need pot odds verification; when information is incomplete, ICM and SPR are still the first principles of tournament play.
