Guillermo Nuez Escribano

Guillem Nuez Escribano was born on 16 March 1985 in Castelldefels, Barcelona, and now resides near Alicante, Spain. He works as a commercial pilot for a European airline, basing his flights out of Alicante. Despite his demanding schedule, he dedicates his free time to poker, which he describes as his second passion and dream.

In August 2023, Nuez won the MINI CEP (Circuito Español de Poker) at Casino Barcelona, which became the most massive MINI CEP in the circuit's history with 786 entries. He entered the final day with a moderate stack and surged into the top 10 on Day 2, citing a pivotal hand with 12 big blinds as his turning point. The victory earned him the title and a significant cash prize.

Nuez is a regular on the CNP Winamax circuit, participating in stops like Seville and Barcelona. In February 2025, during the CNPW Seville Main Event, he finished Day 1B as the chip leader after winning a crucial pot of approximately 100,000 chips in one of the last hands of the night. He also cashed in the High Roller event of the same series, which featured 163 entries and a top prize of €40,300.

Nuez has openly spoken about his struggles with anxiety and depression in 2025, revealing that poker served as his mental refuge. He states, 'Poker saved my life,' explaining that the game's technical study and discipline helped structure his mind during a difficult personal period. He draws parallels between the composure required in the cockpit during emergencies and the mental fortitude needed at the poker table, emphasizing that both involve focusing on what you can control and accepting variance.

Nuez is known for his disciplined approach, both as a pilot and a poker player. He stresses strict bankroll management, calling it 'a religion,' and believes his aviation training gives him an edge in emotional control. He carries a small toy airplane as a lucky charm to symbolize his dual career.

While currently committed to aviation, Nuez aspires to eventually transition fully into professional poker if his results continue to improve. He remains a familiar face on the Spanish live tournament circuit, including the Main Event and Estrellas events of major festivals.
