Hans Lund is a Danish professional poker player, known for his aggressive style and excellent results in online tournaments. He has reached final tables in multiple major online events and has become a focus of strategic discussion due to his unique level of thinking.
Personal Background
Hans J. 'Tuna' Lund was born on September 23, 1950, in Sparks, Nevada, USA. Known by the nickname "Tuna" in the poker world, he began his career in 1977, primarily competing in tournaments along the West Coast of the United States.
WSOP Bracelets and Main Event Runner-Up
Lund won his first WSOP bracelet in the 1978 $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event, earning $46,800. In 1988, he finished runner-up in the same event ($113,625). The 1990 WSOP Main Event was the highlight of his career: he defeated numerous opponents to reach heads-up play against Mansour Matloubi. Holding A♠9♦, the flop came 9-4-2, an Ace hit the turn, but the river brought a 10, giving Matloubi trips with 10♣10♥. Lund finished as runner-up, winning $334,000. In 1996, he won his second bracelet in the $1,500 A-5 Draw event, earning $71,400.
Other Tournament Achievements
Outside the WSOP, Lund won the Amarillo Slim Super Bowl of Poker Main Event in 1983 ($275,000). He made several final tables at the Diamond Jim Brady tournaments and won the All-Around Player award. He also won the Club Cal Neva Racebook tournament twice. In 2007, Lund made deep runs in the WPT Los Angeles Poker Classic (20th place) and the Bay 101 Shooting Star (15th place, $55,000), and cashed in both the 2006 and 2007 WSOP Main Events.
Career Stats and Legacy
Lund's total live tournament earnings are $2,915,543, with $1,079,504 coming from the WSOP (22 cashes, 12 final tables). He retired from regular tournament play in 1997 but occasionally competed afterward. On November 6, 2009, Lund passed away from cancer in Minden, Nevada, at the age of 59. He is buried in the Dayton Cemetery.
