Johan Palokangas

Johan Palokangas emerged on the Scandinavian poker scene by winning the Paf/Svitens Christmas cruise tournament, collecting SEK 70,000 (approximately €7,000) for the victory. The event, held aboard a Baltic Sea ferry, attracted a field of recreational and professional players, and Palokangas defeated Gia Carneström heads-up to claim the title.

In May 2018, Palokangas finished 36th in the Coolbet Open, a €350+€35 event with 317 entries and 108 re-entries, earning €1,150. The tournament was won by Sebastian Wahl for €50,100.

Palokangas participated in the €1,100 Main Event at the 2019 Tallinn Summer Showdown, which had a prize pool of €185,250. During Day 2, he was involved in a rare family pot where all eight players saw the flop. After a J-8-4 flop, Palokangas moved all-in for 36,400 with Q♣J♣ and was snap-called by Jussi Mattila's 6♠6♦. The turn and river brought a 10♣ and J♦, giving Palokangas two pair and a double-up. Later, he was eliminated when his A♦J♣ ran into Kim Lindstrom's A♣K♠; the board brought an ace and Palokangas failed to improve.

At The Festival Weekend Tallinn, Palokangas captured the €200 NLH 7-2 Estonia Special, adding to Finland's dominance in the festival's mixed-game events. The tournament attracted a diverse field, and Palokangas outlasted the competition to take the trophy.

Based on available hand histories, Palokangas employs a tight-aggressive approach, preferring strong starting hands but willing to commit his stack with draws or top pair. He is comfortable in multi-way pots and uses careful stack management to survive deep into tournaments.
