Lucas Greenwood

Lucas Greenwood began playing poker in high school and quickly established himself as one of the top SNG players on PokerStars under the screen name "YRWTHMELTHR." By graduation, he had built a solid online bankroll. Seeking new challenges, he moved into no-limit cash games, playing stakes from $400NL to $1000NL, and later focused on $500NL Zoom on Stars. His online tournament cashes exceed $1.3 million, and he regularly competes in high-stakes Sunday tournaments and series like WCOOP and SCOOP.

Greenwood won his first live tournament in March 2008 in Calgary. In early January 2010, he placed 21st in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures Main Event for $75,000. His first major international headline victory came in 2017 at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas, where he won the $25,750 No Limit Hold'em High Roller for $779,268. That result put him firmly into the high roller conversation. In 2020, he added another major title at the Australian Poker Open, winning a A$50,000 No Limit Hold'em event for $483,000.

Greenwood has accumulated numerous high roller cashes across the globe. In January 2017, he won the High Roller event of the European Poker Tour in Prague, earning nearly €170,000. In March 2018, he placed third in a Macau high-roller tournament on the Asia Pacific Poker Tour for over $150,000. Later that year, he finished fifth at the EPT Super High Roller in Prague for more than €170,000.

In August 2019, he won $570,000 in a London Triton Poker Series tournament. Three weeks later, at the EPT Barcelona, he placed fourth in a high roller one-day event and sixth in the Super High Roller, earning nearly €750,000 combined. In January 2020, he won the sixth event of the Australian Poker Open on the Gold Coast, taking home A$700,000. Two months later, he took third place for almost $340,000 at the online Live Millions Super High Roller Series event in Sochi.

His largest cash to date came in late July 2023 at the Triton Series in London, where he won the $25,000 GGMillion$ Live 8-Handed event for $897,000. This victory was especially meaningful because his twin brother Sam had already won on the Triton circuit. With Luc's London win, the Greenwood twins became the first pair of brothers to each win Triton titles.

Greenwood has cashed 35 times at the World Series of Poker, including five final tables, with total WSOP earnings of $2,965,084 (according to Hendon Mob). His best WSOP result came in 2019 when he finished fourth in Event #80: $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha for $98,027. He also cashed in the 2024 WSOP Main Event, finishing 663rd for $30,000, and in the 2025 WSOP Paradise $25K Super Main Event for $92,500. In the 2025 WSOP Paradise $100K Triton NLH Main Event, he placed 18th for $256,000. Additionally, he finished 9th in a 2023 WSOP Paradise Ultra High Roller for $268,000.

Other notable performances include a 12th-place finish in a Triton $150K NLH event in Jeju in March 2025 for $337,000, and a 9th-place finish in a Triton $50K PLO event for $136,000.

Greenwood’s approach revolves around sound fundamentals, but he emphasizes the importance of focus, attention to detail, and disciplined decision-making. He stresses that knowing what to do and executing are different, and that players must develop a strong theoretical framework while also learning when to deviate from general strategy. His style is patient and solid, reading opponents and adapting to stack sizes effectively. He has stated, "Playing poker for many years, one thing I have learned is that knowing what to do, and executing on that knowledge are not the same."

Lucas Greenwood was born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1988. He is part of one of poker’s most successful families, alongside his twin brother Sam Greenwood and older brother Max Greenwood. Max originally put the family on the poker map with a WSOP bracelet win in 2008. Together, the Greenwoods have solidified their reputation as one of the most successful and formidable poker families in Canadian history. Luc and Sam even carved out a unique piece of poker trivia by becoming the first set of brothers to each capture a Triton Poker title.

Greenwood has accumulated over $8.6 million in live tournament earnings (Hendon Mob data), placing him 14th on the Canada all-time money list and 199th globally (as of early 2025). His best live cash is $897,000. He continues to compete in high roller events worldwide.
