Michael Chi Zhang, commonly known as "mczhang," was born in Nottingham, England, where he still resides. His poker journey began in his late teens when he entered a PokerStrategy freeroll tournament, sparking his passion for the game. Initially, his parents were concerned about the risks and temporarily banned him from playing. As Zhang recalled, "I used to sneak off to play £10 tournaments because my parents wouldn’t let me play" (PokerStars Blog). Despite this, he continued to play, starting with low-stakes tournaments at Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn casino. His first recorded live cashes in 2013 came from a string of £15 buy-in events, reflecting his humble beginnings. By 2014, he was still grinding small £25 freezeouts and local Main Events up to £400. In the $100,000 No Limit Short Deck Hold'em Main Event, he finished as runner-up to Aaron Zang, securing $1,115,000. Earlier in that series, he placed third in the $50K Short Deck event for $320,000. Other notable results include a 36th-place finish in the 2018 EPT Barcelona Main Event (€30,150), a WSOP cash at the 2026 Triton Jeju event, and several cashes in the British Poker Open. According to his Hendon Mob profile, his total live earnings stand at $6,576,618, ranking him 288th on the All Time Money List and 12th among English players.
