Richard Lee began his poker journey in the mid-2000s, making his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) cash in 2007 with a 10th-place finish in Event #21: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout for $61,970. Over the years, he has accumulated 11 WSOP cashes totaling $2,963,276, including a 150th-place finish in the 2012 $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em and a 339th-place result in the 2011 $10,000 Main Event worth $35,492. In 2024, he added two more WSOP cashes, including a 21st-place finish in Online Event #11 for $3,068.

Lee’s biggest career achievement came in September 2023 when he won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Australia main event at The Star Gold Coast. The tournament drew 600 entries and a prize pool of AUD $4,500,000. Lee dominated the final table, defeating Martin Kozlov heads-up to claim the title and AUD $854,890 (approximately USD $550,267), which included a $10,400 seat into the WPT World Championship. The victory etched his name on the Mike Sexton Champions Cup.

Beyond the WPT win, Lee has consistently performed in high-stakes events. He finished 1st in a WPT event at The Star Gold Coast in 2023, earning 1,100 points. In the WSOP, he placed 81st in the 2024 $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em for $8,192 and 48th in the $1,500 Big O for $6,145. He also has deep runs in the WSOP Main Event, including 287th in 2019 ($43,935) and 204th in 2018 ($49,335).

Lee is known for a patient, calculated style that capitalizes on key moments—such as his river straight draw against Romain Morvan at the WPT final table.
