Context: Poker term: Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) A Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) is a poker competition where many players compete simultaneously across multiple tables. Players accumulate chips by eliminating opponents, until one player wins the championship. In practice, an MTT tests a player's long-term strategy and survival skills, as the blind levels increase over time, forcing players to make decisions under chip pressure. Typical scenario: An MTT has 1,000 players with a starting stack of 10,000 chips, blinds increase every 20 minutes. You need to accumulate chips cautiously in the early stage, use position and hand reading to steal blinds in the middle stage, and compete for the championship prize at the final table in the late stage.

Overview
An MTT (Multi-Table Tournament) is one of the most common formats in poker. Unlike a Single-Table Tournament (SNG), an MTT typically involves dozens to thousands of players spread across multiple tables simultaneously. As the tournament progresses, eliminated players cause tables to merge, until the remaining players reach the final table to compete for the title.
Tournament Structure
An MTT usually has a fixed buy-in, which may include a rake. After the tournament starts, blind levels increase at set intervals (e.g., 10–30 minutes), forcing players to adopt more aggressive strategies. All players start with the same stack and accumulate chips by winning pots. Eliminating a player awards you their entire stack.
Prize Structure
The prize pool consists of all buy-ins and is distributed according to finishing position, with the champion receiving the largest share. Players who finish "in the money" at least recover their buy-in cost. The payout structure is pyramid-shaped, with higher payouts for better finishes.
Key Strategy Points
- Early Stage: Blinds are low; adopt a tight-aggressive strategy, avoid unnecessary risks, and accumulate chips.
- Middle Stage: Blinds increase; widen your starting hand range and use positional advantage to steal blinds.
- Late Stage: Near the money or final table, consider ICM (Independent Chip Model) factors to balance survival with accumulation.
- Short Stack Strategy: When low on chips, look for spots to go all-in to avoid being blinded out.
Common Variants
- Freeroll: No buy-in, usually with a small prize pool.
- Rebuy: Allows players to buy in again during a specified period.
- Satellite: Awards entries to a larger event.
