In practice, players must master eight variants: Limit Texas Hold'em, No-Limit Texas Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo, Razz, Seven-Card Stud, 2-7 Triple Draw, and 2-7 Single Draw. Any weakness in one variant becomes a target for opponents. Typical scenario: During the Limit Texas Hold'em round, players need to adjust their aggression to avoid revealing hand strength through over-betting in the subsequent Omaha Hi-Lo round; a mistake in the Razz round could allow opponents to accumulate chips using low card advantages.

8-Game Mix is a high-difficulty mixed game format commonly found in poker tournaments or cash games. It consists of eight different poker variants that rotate in a fixed order, playing a set number of hands (e.g., 6 hands) or a fixed time (e.g., 8 minutes) per game before switching. This format requires players to master multiple rules and strategies, making it an important event type for measuring overall skill.
Common Game Composition
The standard lineup for 8-Game Mix typically includes the following eight games, divided into four categories:
Limit Games
- Limit Texas Hold'em: Classic limit form with fixed bet sizes.
- Limit Omaha Hi-Lo: Omaha high-low split, where the pot is divided between the high hand and a low hand (low hand must qualify with 8 or better).
- Limit Seven-Card Stud: Seven-card stud with limit betting.
- Limit Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo: Seven-card stud high-low split, pot divided.
Pot-Limit Games
- Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO): Omaha high only, pot-limit betting.
- Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo: Omaha high-low split, pot-limit betting.
No-Limit Games
- No-Limit Texas Hold'em: The most popular no-limit form.
- No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw: 2-7 lowball draw game with no-limit betting.
Different events may adjust the specific games, e.g., replacing "No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw" with "Limit 2-7 Triple Draw", but the above combination is the most classic.
Game Features
- Rotation Mechanism: Usually cycles in a fixed order, e.g., starting with Limit Texas Hold'em, then Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, and so on. Each round has a fixed number of hands or time to ensure fairness.
- Strategy Requirements: Players must master starting hand selection, betting patterns, hand reading, etc., across multiple games. Players who excel in only one game may be at a disadvantage due to unfamiliarity with others.
- Tournament Application: WSOP (World Series of Poker) features 8-Game Mix bracelet events, such as the "$10,000 8-Game Mix Championship," attracting top professional players.
Example
In an 8-Game Mix, the first 8 minutes are played as Limit Texas Hold'em, followed by 8 minutes of Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, and so on in rotation. Players must quickly switch mental gears and adapt to different game structures and objectives.
