AF from CO
AF from CO
Term: Aggression Factor from CO AF from CO A player's aggression factor in the Cut Off position, measuring their tendency to apply pressure through betting or raising from that seat.
Overview
AF from CO is a statistic in poker tracking software that reflects a player's Aggression Factor when in the cutoff position (CO, i.e., the third position after the under the gun in a full-ring game, or one position before the button in 6-max). This factor is calculated as (number of bets + number of raises) / number of calls, accounting only for actions where the player voluntarily puts money into the pot (excluding checks and folds).
Interpretation
- AF = 1: The number of bets/raises equals the number of calls; a balanced style.
- AF > 2: Highly aggressive, tending to bet or raise rather than call, often seen in aggressive players or when holding strong hands.
- AF < 1: Passive style, more calling-oriented, possibly indicating a tendency to showdown or slow-play.
Specifically for the CO position, AF values tend to be higher than those from the blinds because CO has positional advantage and often initiates steal attempts. Typical aggressive cutoff players have AF values between 2.0 and 3.5, while tight-passive players may fall below 1.5.
Strategic Applications
- Against high-AF CO players: Consider increasing your re-raise frequency to exploit their over-aggression.
- Against low-AF CO players: Lean towards pot control to avoid being trapped after they call.
- Self-adjustment: Raising your own AF in the CO can improve steal success rates and apply pressure, but should be adjusted based on opponent types and table dynamics.
Notes
AF values are heavily influenced by sample size. Small samples (e.g., fewer than 200 hands) have limited reference value. It should be evaluated in conjunction with VPIP (voluntarily put money in pot) and PFR (preflop raise percentage). For example, a high VPIP but low AF may indicate frequent calling preflop, while a high PFR combined with high AF suggests a consistently aggressive style.
