BTN 4Bet
BTN 4Bet
e., a re-raise against an opponent's 3Bet.
Overview
BTN 4Bet (Button 4Bet) is a preflop action in Texas Hold'em where the player on the button chooses to make a fourth bet (4Bet) after someone has 3Bet. A 4Bet is typically a response to an opponent's aggressive 3Bet, and can be used either as a value raise to extract value or as a bluff to force the opponent to fold.
Strategic Significance
The BTN position has a natural postflop positional advantage when 4Betting, so its 4Bet range is typically wider than from other positions. Generally, the BTN's 4Bet range includes strong hands (such as AA, KK, AKs) along with some bluff hands that have blocking effects (such as AXs, suited connectors, etc.), depending on the opponent's 3Bet frequency and tendencies.
Common Scenarios
- Value 4Bet: When the BTN holds a very strong hand (e.g., AA, KK) and assesses that the opponent's 3Bet range is wide with low fold equity, a 4Bet can build the pot and induce the opponent to call or reraise.
- Bluff 4Bet: When the BTN holds medium-strength hands with blockers (e.g., ATs) and the opponent has a high fold rate after 3Betting, a 4Bet can force the opponent to fold their weaker 3Bet range.
Notes
- The size of a 4Bet is typically about 2 to 2.5 times the 3Bet amount, but should be adjusted based on stack depth and opponent.
- 4Betting too frequently can be exploited by opponents; it is important to balance based on opponent tendencies and one's own table image.
