Poker Term

按钮位翻前下注-单调翻牌弃牌(BTN Preflop Bet-Fold Monotone)

After betting preflop from the button, if the flop is a monotone board suited board, folding to an opponent's raise.

Term Breakdown

  • BTN (Button): The button position, which acts last in each round of Texas Hold'em, providing a positional advantage.
  • Preflop: The betting round before the flop, after hole cards are dealt but before any community cards are revealed.
  • Bet-Fold: A betting pattern where a player makes an initial bet but folds if raised, typically used with medium-strength hands or as a bluff.
  • Monotone: Describes a board where all cards are of the same suit (e.g., a flop of ♠A♠K♠7).

Strategy Principle

This combined strategy applies when the player on the button raises or bets with a wider range preflop (e.g., a standard open). On a monotone flop, the board's suited nature increases reverse implied odds: opponents may hold flush draws or already have a flush. If an opponent raises the flop bet, it often indicates a strong hand (e.g., top pair with a flush draw, a made flush, or a set). Because value hands dominate the opponent's raising range, most marginal hands held by the BTN player (e.g., unimproved pairs, two overcards) cannot continue and thus choose to fold to avoid further losses.

Typical Application Scenarios

  • Preflop: The BTN raises with hands like A♠K♣ or J♣T♠.
  • Flop: The flop comes ♠Q♠9♠2. The BTN makes a continuation bet of about two-thirds of the pot. The small blind raises to three times that bet.
  • The BTN assesses the opponent's raising range includes made flushes, top pair with flush draws, or sets, while their own hand (e.g., AK without a flush draw) is behind, so they fold.

Notes

  • This strategy is not absolute; it should consider opponent tendencies, stack depth, and the player's own hand's flush blockers (e.g., holding the A♠ reduces the likelihood of an opponent having a flush).
  • On a monotone board, if holding a nut flush draw or an overpair with a flush draw, a call or even a re-raise may be considered.
  • This term is not a standard textbook definition but a descriptive combination for a specific scenario.
