Applicable Scenarios

Typical situation: After the Button limps or raises preflop, both players check the flop, check again on the turn, and the river brings a card of the same suit (or the entire board is already monotone). At this point, the Button player may hold a medium-strength hand or a missed draw but believes the opponent's range is weak, so they make a small bet (e.g., one-third of the pot) to test if the opponent holds a flush or a strong hand.

Strategic Logic

• Information gathering: If the opponent check-raises, it usually indicates a flush or strong hand; if they call, they may have a pair or medium hand; if they fold, the pot is stolen successfully.
• Exploitative: Works well against tight-passive players due to their high fold rates; caution is needed against loose-aggressive players, as they may re-raise.
