按钮位湿润河牌探注(BTN River Probe Bet Wet)

Button player on the river, when the board is wet and he was not the aggressor on the flop/turn, actively bets to probe the opponent or extract value.

Concept

BTN River Probe Bet Wet refers to a probe bet executed on the river by the player on the button (BTN), where the board texture is wet (i.e., there are possible straights, flushes, or overpairs completing various draws).

Typical Scenarios

It typically occurs when the button player limps or raises preflop, then takes a passive line (check-calling or checking through) on the flop and turn, and suddenly leads out with a bet on the river. On a wet board, the opponent may hold strong made hands or missed draws. The button player leverages positional advantage to force the opponent into a decision by betting.

Motives and Purposes

  • Information gathering: A small bet (around 1/3 pot) is used to observe the opponent's reaction and gauge hand strength.
  • Value extraction: When holding a medium-strength hand (e.g., top pair weak kicker), a wet board can induce calls from an opponent's checking range that missed draws.
  • Semi-bluffing: When the button player holds a draw that missed, they can use the river card change to represent a made hand and force the opponent to fold.

Considerations

  • On wet boards, the opponent's calling range is wider, so bet sizing must be chosen carefully.
  • Against aggressive opponents, you may face a raise, so assess opponent tendencies and your own range.
  • This bet is common in lower-stakes games, but higher-stakes opponents may frequently adjust.

Example

Suppose the board is J♠ T♠ 9♦, turn 5♣, river 8♠. The button player holds K♠ Q♣ (open-ended straight draw + flush draw). After check-calling the turn, the river completes a possible straight flush. They can bet 1/2 pot, representing a made hand, to force the opponent to fold a pair or a missed draw.
