Term Composition

This term is composed of four poker concepts:

  • BTN (Button): Refers to the player in the button position, who acts last preflop and has positional advantage.
  • Turn: The fourth community card dealt.
  • Triple Barrel: The act of betting on the flop, turn, and river after raising preflop.
  • Monotone: A board where all community cards are of the same suit (e.g., three or four cards all hearts).

Strategic Meaning

On a monotone board, players are more likely to hold a flush draw or a made flush. The button player, as the preflop aggressor, typically has a wide range of hands. When the flop is monotone, the button can use this structure to make a continuation bet (C-Bet) and continue betting on the turn, representing a flush or flush draw.

Typical Application Scenario

Example: Button raises preflop, big blind calls. Flop: A♠K♠3♠ (monotone). Button bets, big blind calls. Turn: 7♠, making the board A♠K♠3♠7♠ (four to a flush). Button bets again. This bet is called a "BTN Turn Triple Barrel Monotone."

Precautions

This play is riskier on a monotone flop because the opponent may have a flush or flush draw. The button's triple barrel needs to balance value bets and bluffs. If the river does not complete a flush and the turn bet is called, the button usually checks or continues bluffing on the river.
