CO 4-Bet Pot Flop Strategy
CO 4-Bet Pot Flop Strategy
CO 4-Bet Pot Flop Strategy Refers to the betting and play strategy on the flop in a pot formed after a Cutoff CO player 4-bets preflop.
Term article: CO 4-Bet Pot Flop Strategy
Strategy Background
In No-Limit Texas Hold'em, the cutoff (CO) is a relatively late position with a preflop steal advantage. When a CO player makes a 4-bet (i.e., re-raising a 3-bet), the pot is typically larger, and both ranges are strong. The flop strategy must consider range advantage, board texture, stack depth, and other factors.
Ranges and Advantages
The CO's 4-bet range usually includes strong hands (e.g., AA, KK, AKs) as well as some bluff hands (e.g., A5s, KQo). Postflop, the CO often has a range advantage over the opponent (usually the blinds or the 3-bettor), especially when the flop favors the CO's range. For example, on a low flop (e.g., 8-5-2), the CO's high pairs and AK may hold an advantage.
Betting Strategy
In general, the CO should tend to c-bet frequently in a 4-bet pot, but bet sizing must be adjusted. Common bet sizes range from 30% to 50% of the pot. On dry boards (e.g., K-7-2 rainbow), a smaller bet (1/3 pot) can be used, mixing value hands and some bluffs. On wet boards (e.g., 9♠8♠5♥), a larger bet (2/3 pot) or a check is advisable to prevent opponents from completing draws.
Flop Decision Factors
- Position Advantage: The CO is in position on the flop, allowing decisions after observing the opponent's action.
- Pot Odds: 4-bet pots offer thin pot odds, so medium-strength hands must be played carefully.
- Opponent's Range: Infer the opponent's range for calling a 4-bet after 3-betting, typically QQ+, AK, etc.
- Stack Depth: With deeper stacks (effective stacks > 100 BB), more mixed strategies can be employed.
Typical Example
Assume the CO 4-bets with AKo, and the flop comes K-9-2 rainbow. The CO has top pair top kicker and should bet about 1/3 pot for value. If the flop comes Q-J-T suited and the CO misses, a check or small bluff bet is an option.
Notes
This strategy must be adjusted dynamically based on opponent tendencies. If the opponent folds frequently, increase bluff frequency; if they call often, lean towards value betting. Also, avoid over-bluffing in 4-bet pots to prevent large losses.
