CO位翻牌前口袋对过牌-跟注(CO Preflop Check-Call Paired)
CO位置玩家在翻牌前持有口袋对时,选择平跟入池,并在翻牌圈采取过牌-跟注的玩法。
Overview
This term describes a strategy in No-Limit Texas Hold'em where a player in the CO (cutoff, the first position to the right of the dealer) holds a pocket pair (e.g., 77, KK) and, instead of re-raising, chooses to call the opponent's raise preflop, then checks first on the flop and calls when facing a bet. It should be noted that "Preflop Check-Call" is literally ambiguous, as check-call usually occurs postflop; in practice, this term often refers to the combined action of calling preflop and checking-calling on the flop.
Strategy Purpose
- Set Mining: When holding small or medium pocket pairs (e.g., 22-99), the probability of hitting a set on the flop is about 12%. Calling to control the pot, then checking-calling on the flop can induce the opponent to continue betting, allowing for greater value when the set is made.
- Range Protection: In the CO position, calling helps maintain a wide range, making it difficult for opponents to read your hand. Frequent re-raising may expose hand strength.
Common Scenarios
- Facing a preflop raise from an early position (e.g., UTG, MP) with a large sizing, the CO calls with a small pocket pair, then check-calls on the flop, hoping to hit a set on the turn or river.
- When the flop texture is unrelated to the opponent's range (e.g., low board) and the opponent has a high c-bet frequency, using check-call can force the opponent to continue bluffing.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: Reduces variance, preserves implied odds; avoids being forced to fold by aggressive players who re-raise.
- Cons: When no set is hit on the flop, may become passive and difficult to win; frequent use over time may allow opponents to exploit your range weaknesses.
Notes
- This strategy does not apply to all opponents. It is more effective against players who frequently c-bet, while adjustments are needed against cautious players.
- Stack depth should be sufficient (typically recommended effective stack greater than 20 times the raise amount) to support the implied odds of set mining.
