Poker Term

关煞位河牌干燥面五加注(CO River 5-Bet Dry)

The action of 5-betting on the river from the CO position against an opponent's 4-bet when the board is dry. This is typically a theoretically rare scenario.

Term Composition

  • CO: Cut-Off, the position immediately to the right of the button.
  • River: The final community card and the last betting round.
  • 5-Bet: The fifth raise; preflop, it refers to a re-raise after a 4-Bet (which itself follows a 3-Bet). Postflop, betting rounds typically only go up to a 4-Bet (bet-raise-re-raise-re-re-raise), so a 5-Bet postflop is extremely rare.
  • Dry: A dry board, meaning the river community cards offer no obvious drawing possibilities (e.g., a rainbow board with no straight potential).

Meaning and Usage

This term is not a standard poker term but describes an extreme betting pattern. In theory, when in the CO position on a dry river, if the opponent has already made a fourth consecutive raise (e.g., opponent bets → we raise → opponent re-raises → we re-re-raise → opponent raises a fourth time), we then make a fifth raise. In actual poker, postflop betting rounds almost never exceed a 4-Bet, making this scenario extremely rare.

Typical hypothetical situation: Holding the nuts in the CO, building a large pot through multiple raises, but the dry board limits the opponent’s bluffing range. In such a spot, a 5-Bet might only be called by better hands. Strategically, it is usually not recommended because too many raises reveal hand strength and increase risk.

Notes

  • This term rarely appears in formal poker literature or discussions; it may originate from player inventions or a misuse of preflop concepts.
  • If encountered in conversation, clarify from context what the other person actually means (possibly a preflop 5-Bet, but this contradicts the "River" part).
