Eight Four Suited
Refers to a starting hand of an 8 and a 4, both of the same suit.
Eight-four suited is a weak starting hand in Texas Hold'em, typically classified as a junk hand. Due to the large gap between 8 and 4 (four ranks apart), it is difficult to form a straight draw, and the high-card value of 8 and 4 is very low. The only value comes from the flush possibility: if two cards of that suit appear on the flop, it can form a flush draw. However, even if the flush is made, its relative strength is weak and it is susceptible to larger flushes. It is generally recommended to fold directly in early or middle position, and only occasionally consider raising in late position with very high blinds or when stealing blinds, and even then with caution. Typically, it is played as a speculative hand, seeing the flop at minimal cost in multi-way pots, hoping to hit two pair or a flush draw, otherwise folding quickly.
