GTO

GTO (Game Theory Optimal strategy) is a theoretically unexploitable balanced style of play that achieves Nash equilibrium through mathematical modeling. Its core is mixing bet ranges so that no matter what action the opponent takes, they cannot achieve a long-term positive expected value. In practice, GTO strategy is used against high-level opponents to avoid being exploited, but must be adjusted based on opponent weaknesses, as pure GTO may give up some value.

What is GTO?

GTO (Game Theory Optimal) refers to the optimal strategy that cannot be exploited within the framework of game theory.

Core Idea

If both players play GTO, neither can profit in the long run. The value of a GTO strategy lies in: When you don't know how your opponent plays, GTO is the safest baseline.

Practical Application

  • Constructing a balanced range (value-to-bluff ratio)
  • Serving as a baseline for exploit strategies
  • Using solvers (PioSolver, GTO+) to calculate postflop strategies
