Guaranteed Prize Pool
Guaranteed Prize Pool
Regardless of the actual number of participants, the prize pool will reach at least this amount. In practice, a guaranteed prize pool attracts more players to register, because even if fewer players participate, the prize money will not shrink, reducing the risk of entry. For example, if a tournament advertises a guaranteed prize pool of 100,000 yuan but only 50 players sign up with a total entry fee of 50,000 yuan, the organizer must still make up the difference to bring the prize pool to 100,000 yuan. This provides extra value for players, especially suitable for large tournaments or promotional events.
Guaranteed Prize Pool
Overview
A Guaranteed Prize Pool is the minimum total prize money that a poker tournament organizer promises to pay out. If the actual entry fee revenue falls short of the guaranteed amount, the organizer must make up the difference. If the revenue exceeds the guarantee, the prize pool is calculated based on the actual revenue.
Function
- Attract players: A large guarantee attracts more entries, especially in new events or online tournaments.
- Reduce risk: Players know the prize pool will not shrink even if the number of participants is low.
Typical Scenario
Online poker rooms often run events like “$100,000 Guaranteed.” If the total entry fees amount to only $80,000, the organizer pays the additional $20,000 out of pocket. If the revenue reaches $120,000, the prize pool becomes $120,000.
Notes
- Guaranteed prize pools usually require a minimum number of entries to be triggered; otherwise, the event may be canceled or adjusted.
- Large live events (e.g., the WSOP Main Event) typically do not have guarantees; the prize pool is entirely determined by entry fees.
