劫位河牌湿润牌面探注(HJ River Probe Bet Wet)
On the river, the Hijack player makes a small probe bet on a wet board, aimed at assessing opponent's hand strength or extracting thin value.
Position & Scenario
HJ (Hijack) is in a middle-late position, typically with a wider pre-flop raising range. When betting on the river, if the board is wet (e.g., flush or straight draws completed), opponents may hold made hands or draws.
Purpose of the Probe Bet
- Gather information: A small bet observes opponent reactions to determine if they have a strong hand (e.g., the nuts) or a weak hand.
- Thin value: If the opponent may have a medium-strength hand (e.g., a pair), a small bet can be called for value.
- Blocking bet: Prevents the opponent from betting larger, forcing weak hands to fold and avoiding being bluffed.
Conditions for Implementation
- On the flop or turn, the HJ as the pre-flop aggressor may c-bet or check; if they check, a river bet becomes a probe bet.
- The board is wet, and HJ's range may include many draws, making it hard for the opponent to determine.
- Bet size is usually 30%-50% of the pot; too large and it loses the probe bet purpose.
Advantages & Disadvantages
- Advantages: Controls pot size, gains information at low cost, reduces losses.
- Disadvantages: If opponent raises, HJ must fold, and this pattern can be exploited by frequent folding.
Typical Example
Pre-flop HJ raises, big blind calls. Flop 9♠8♠3♥, HJ bets, big blind calls. Turn 7♠, both check. River 2♠, board shows four spades. HJ bets 1/3 pot, testing if big blind holds A♠ or a flush.
