Light 3-Bet Frequency

轻3-Bet频率

Context: Term: Light 3-Bet Frequency Refers to the frequency with which a player makes a 3-bet (re-raise) preflop with non-strong hands (usually speculative or medium-strength hands), indicating a measure of their preflop aggression.

Term Explanation

Light 3-Bet Frequency is an important parameter in Texas Hold'em for measuring a player's preflop aggression. A 3-Bet refers to reraising after someone has already raised (i.e., a "re-raise"). The term "Light" indicates that this reraise is not based on premium hands (e.g., AA, KK) but rather a wider range, including medium and low pairs, suited connectors, and even A-X suited hands.

Purpose and Significance

A high Light 3-Bet frequency means a player frequently fights back against opponents' raises, forcing them to fold or enter unfavorable situations. This increases preflop fold equity while concealing the player's actual hand strength. However, excessively high frequencies can make one vulnerable to re-raises or complex postflop spots when called.

Typical Range

  • Low pairs (e.g., 66-99)
  • Suited connectors (e.g., 67s, 89s)
  • Suited gappers (e.g., Q9s, J8s)
  • Some A-x suited hands (e.g., A2s-A5s) These hands have some potential postflop and are not easily read by opponents.

Frequency Adjustment

Light 3-Bet frequency is typically adjusted based on position, opponent tendencies, stack depth, and table dynamics. For example:

  • When on the button against a blind raise, the frequency can be increased appropriately.
  • Against tight-passive players, Light 3-Betting is more effective.
  • With deep stacks, speculative hands can be used more often for Light 3-Bets, hoping to hit strong hands postflop.

Example

A typical scenario: You are on the button, and the CO player raises to 3BB. You hold 78s. If you choose to re-raise to 9BB, this is a Light 3-Bet. Your goal is to force the opponent to fold, or if they call, your hand still has good playability.
