Donk Bet itself refers to the preflop non-raiser leading the flop, while "Light" emphasizes that the bet is not based on made hands or strong draws, but on weaker holdings, low pairs, backdoor draws, or complete air.

Strategic Considerations

• Exploitative Use: Some players check to the raiser on the flop at a very high frequency. A light donk bet can force them to fold or induce mistakes on later streets. For example, on a dry board like K-7-2 rainbow, betting with a backdoor straight draw to pressure the opponent into giving up equity.
• Range Balancing: A high frequency of light donk bets can balance value donk bets (such as top pair or two pair), preventing opponents from accurately reading the betting range. However, too high a frequency weakens your own checking range, making you vulnerable to exploitation.
• Opponent Tendencies: Against opponents with a high flop check rate or a wide calling range, reduce light donk bets; against those with a high flop fold rate, increase them.
