MP Limped Pot Preflop Strategy

MP Limped Pot Preflop Strategy

Term: 中位溜入底池翻前策略 MP Limped Pot Preflop Strategy Refers to the preflop action strategy taken by a player in middle position MP when facing a limp flat call from a player before them in no-limit Texas Hold'em.

Overview

Middle Position (MP) refers to the position after the Under the Gun (UTG) and before the Hijack (HJ). When one or more players ahead choose to limp, dead money is already in the pot. The MP player needs to develop a preflop strategy based on hand strength, position advantage, and the tendencies of subsequent players.

Strategy Key Points

Raising Range

  • Value Raises: Use strong hands (e.g., TT+, AQ+) to isolate limpers and build the pot. The raise size is typically 3-4 times the pot plus one big blind per limper.
  • Semi-Bluff Raises: Medium-strength suited connectors or small pairs can also be raised, leveraging position and postflop playability.

Calling Range

  • Avoid Frequent Calls: Calling encourages more players to enter the pot, reducing positional advantage. Generally, only call with strong suited connectors or small pairs, and fold if later players are aggressive.
  • Post-Call Plan: After calling, be prepared to act aggressively on the flop when hitting a made hand or a draw; otherwise, stuck in a multiway pot you may face a passive situation.

Folding Range

  • Weak Hands: Hands like garbage suited cards, unsuited small cards, etc., should be folded even with limpers, as postflop multiway pots have low equity.
  • Marginal Hands: Hands like A-small suited. With many limpers and tight-passive later players, consider raising; otherwise, fold.

Position Impact

MP still has some positional advantage in limped pots, but less than later positions. If later players are aggressive, MP should tighten the raising range to avoid being isolated or re-raised.

Examples

  • 1 limper, MP holds AQo: Raise to 4BB to isolate weak hands and extract value.
  • 2 limpers, MP holds 87s: Call, leveraging flush or straight draws on the flop.
