Multi-Table SNG Heads-Up
Multi-table SNG MTSNG heads-up stage when entering the last two players.
Overview
Multi-table SNG (MTT-SNG) is a tournament format that combines features of multi-table tournaments and SNG (Single Table Tournaments). When the number of participants is reduced to the last two players, the game enters the heads-up phase, a one-on-one duel until the champion is determined.
Features
- Stack Depth: Usually still close to the initial stack or shallower, but may be deeper due to accumulation.
- Blind Structure: Blind level increase times are the same as in regular MTSNGs, but blinds are typically higher in the heads-up phase.
- ICM Impact: In MTSNGs, the ICM model applies to all remaining players, but in heads-up, ICM simplifies to a linear relationship (only the prize difference between first and second place).
Strategy Adjustments
- Starting Hand Range: In heads-up, the range widens significantly; all pairs, high cards, and connectors can be considered for play.
- Position Advantage: The button (dealer position) is extremely important; frequent raises or blind steals should be employed.
- Bet Sizing: Typically use raises of about 2-2.5 times the big blind to reduce opponent pot odds.
- Push/Fold: When short-stacked (e.g., less than 10 BB), push/fold strategy dominates; when deep-stacked, more nuanced postflop technique is required.
Differences from Standard SNG Heads-Up
- Prize Structure: MTSNG prizes are usually more top-heavy (e.g., 30-40% of the prize pool goes to first place), while standard SNG heads-up (e.g., Heads-Up SNG) has a fixed ratio (typically 70% to the winner).
- Game Progression: In MTSNG heads-up, many eliminations have already occurred, and opponents may have adapted to different rhythms and ranges.
- Psychological Factors: MTSNG heads-up lasts longer, making the opponent's adaptability more critical.
Notes
- Ignore ICM pressure from the bubble: In the heads-up phase, all tournament value is directly reflected in the ranking.
- Adjust frequency: Choose raise or fold frequencies based on opponent tendencies (aggressive/conservative).
- Practice method: Improve heads-up skills through dedicated Heads-Up SNG or late-stage MTSNG practice.
