Pineapple OFC
Pineapple OFC
Pineapple OFC A variation of Open Face Chinese Poker where players receive three cards per round and must discard one before arranging their hand.
Pineapple OFC is a popular variant of Open Face Chinese Poker (OFC) that combines Pineapple rules with the core mechanics of OFC.
Basic Rules
- Each player receives three cards at the start of each hand, instead of the standard two in OFC.
- Players must choose one card to discard from the three, then place the remaining two cards face up into their hand (top three cards, middle five cards, bottom five cards).
- Subsequent dealing is the same as standard OFC until all cards are dealt (usually 13 cards total to form a complete hand).
Strategic Differences
- Pineapple OFC increases the difficulty of each round's decision: players must evaluate the potential combinations of three cards simultaneously and decide which card best optimizes the current hand or preserves future opportunities.
- Since players take an extra card before discarding one, they have more chances to adjust strategy, but the cost of discarding the wrong card is also higher.
- Typically, Pineapple OFC has greater score variance because players are more likely to make strong hands (e.g., straight flush, four of a kind), but also more prone to fouling.
Common Variations
- Some rules allow players to see other players' hands when discarding (open face feature), enabling better decisions.
- The Fantasyland rule also applies to Pineapple OFC: if a player completes their hand under specific conditions (e.g., no hand below a certain strength), they can enter Fantasyland and gain an extra advantage in the next round.
Pineapple OFC is favored by advanced players for its faster pace and more complex decisions, and is often found in online poker rooms and private games.
