翻牌前延迟持续下注(湿润牌面)(Preflop Delayed C-Bet on Wet Board)

The strategy where the preflop raiser checks on a wet flop and then bets on the turn.

Meaning

A Preflop Delayed C-Bet on a Wet Board refers to a situation where the preflop raiser (often in position or out of position) foregoes an immediate continuation bet (C-Bet) on a flop that is wet (e.g., with straight or flush draw possibilities), instead checking and then betting on the turn. This play is a specific instance of a Delayed C-Bet tailored for wet board textures.

Purpose & Principle

On wet flops, an opponent's range may contain many draws or made hands, making an immediate C-Bet transparent or susceptible to raises. By delaying the bet, the preflop raiser aims to:

  • Deception: Lead the opponent to interpret the flop check as weakness, making the turn bet appear more like a value bet.
  • Hand Protection: When the turn card improves the board favorably (e.g., completing a flush or straight but not actually hitting it), a bet can force draws to fold.
  • Pot Control: Avoid building a large pot on the flop, especially in deep-stacked or multi-way situations.

Typical Scenarios

Common in cases:

  • The flop is extremely wet, e.g., two suited high cards plus connectors like J♠ T♠ 9♦.
  • The preflop raiser holds a medium-strength hand (e.g., top pair weak kicker) and does not want to face a flop raise.
  • Opponent's range has a high proportion of draws that may be abandoned on the turn.

Notes

  • Opponent's position: When using a delayed C-Bet out of position, consider that the opponent may also check back and get a free card.
  • Balance: Overusing this play makes it exploitable; it should be mixed with flop C-Bets, check-raises, etc.
  • Turn card texture: If the turn card dries the board or completes obvious draws, the effectiveness of the delayed C-Bet may diminish.
