河牌3-Bet(River 3-Bet)

The act of re-raising an opponent's raise 2-Bet on the river, usually indicating a strong hand or a high-level bluff.

Meaning

In Texas Hold'em, a River 3-Bet refers to the third betting action occurring on the river (the final street). The betting sequence is: one player bets (1-Bet), another player raises (2-Bet), and then the original bettor or a third player re-raises (3-Bet). The river is the final decision point, so a River 3-Bet typically represents extremely strong hand strength (such as the nuts) or a carefully crafted bluff, as the likelihood of facing a 4-Bet is lower at this point.

Strategic Considerations

  • Value Raise: When holding a strong made hand, especially if the opponent's raising range contains many weaker value hands, a River 3-Bet can extract maximum value.
  • Bluff: In rare cases, if the opponent's raising range is weak (e.g., thin value or bluffs) and your blockers are effective, you could attempt a bluff 3-Bet. However, this carries high risk.
  • Range and Frequency: The frequency of a River 3-Bet is typically very low, generally below 1-2%, because a raise on the river itself already indicates a strong hand. Overusing it can lead to exploitation.

Common Scenarios

  • Player A bets on the river, Player B raises, Player A holds the nuts and chooses to 3-Bet all-in or make a large raise.
  • Player A bets on the river, Player B raises, Player A uses blockers (e.g., holding key cards for the opponent's made hand) to 3-Bet bluff, forcing the opponent to fold medium-strength hands.
