- Implied odds: Since opponents are unlikely to see it coming, a successful runner can yield large rewards. However, it is generally not advisable to call solely based on a backdoor draw unless the pot odds are excellent or the opponent folds frequently.
- Semi-bluff: Players sometimes use backdoor draws as a semi-bluff, combining fold equity with potential future gains.
