小盲位河牌彩虹面过牌弃牌(SB River Check-Fold Rainbow)

SB River Check-Fold Rainbow

Refers to the action strategy where the small blind player, on the river, when facing a rainbow board three or more cards of different suits, first checks, and then folds if the opponent bets.

Term Explanation

"SB River Check-Fold Rainbow" consists of four parts: SB (Small Blind), River (River betting round), Check-Fold (check then fold), and Rainbow (rainbow board, meaning all community cards are of different suits). This term describes a passive defensive strategy taken by the small blind player on the river when the board is a rainbow.

Strategy Application Scenarios

  • Significance of Rainbow Board: A rainbow board means there is no possibility of a flush draw. Therefore, the opponent's bluffing range lacks pure bluff combos that would result from a missed flush draw, making their bets more likely to be value hands or strong made hands.
  • Small Blind Weakness: The small blind is at a positional disadvantage throughout the hand (acting first post-flop), and if they check on the river, the opponent can easily bet to apply pressure. The small blind player usually has a wider range but may have weaker made hands.

Action Logic

  1. Check: The small blind acts first and chooses to check to see the opponent's reaction.
  2. Fold: If the opponent bets, the small blind believes their hand is too weak to call (usually because the opponent's bet represents a strong hand, while their own hand is only good for catching bluffs, but the rainbow board reduces bluffs), so they choose to fold.

Example Scenario

Suppose the board is K♠ 8♦ 3♥ 2♣ 7♠ (note this is not a rainbow, just for structure). A more typical rainbow river would be like K♠ 8♦ 3♥ 2♣ 7♣ (possible flush) – but actually a rainbow requires all suits different, e.g., K♠ 8♦ 3♥ 2♣ 7♦ (last card same suit as previous, not rainbow). A correct rainbow board would have each card a different suit, for instance: A♠ 8♦ 3♥ 2♣ 7♠? (repeat suit). Actually, rainbow usually refers to the flop having three different suits; subsequent cards may change. On the river, a rainbow board means all five community cards are of different suits, but since there are only four suits, it's impossible to have five different suits. So "rainbow" on the river typically means there are no four or more cards of the same suit, i.e., no flush possible. For example: A♠ K♦ Q♣ 2♥ 3♠ (two spades but no flush). In common usage, "rainbow" simply means no flush threat.

Strategy Evaluation

This strategy is suitable when the small blind holds a medium to weak hand and believes the opponent's betting range contains a high proportion of value hands. Since the rainbow board reduces bluffing frequency, Check-Fold can avoid being value-bet for more chips. However, if the opponent over-bluffs or the small blind has a strong hand, they should consider Check-Call or Check-Raise.
