Poker Term

小盲河牌冷跟注(牌面成对)(SB River Cold Call Paired)

Small blind in the river round, facing a player who has already bet, enters the pot with a cold call, and the board is paired at that time.

Scene Description

This term describes a specific action scenario in Texas Hold'em: The player is in the small blind (SB), the hand has reached the river (River), with all five community cards dealt, and there is a pair on the board (i.e., two cards of the same rank). At this point, one or more players before the small blind have actively bet (not just checked), and the small blind player chooses to call that bet directly, without first raising or re-raising. This call is referred to as a "cold call."

Strategic Implications

A cold call from the small blind on the river usually indicates that their hand has some showdown value but is not strong enough to value raise. Common hand types include:

  • Top pair or middle pair that is unrelated to the paired board (e.g., the board has a pair, but the player holds another pair to make two pair, or just one pair that might be ahead).
  • Bluff-catching hands, such as medium pairs or top pair with a weak kicker, where the player suspects the opponent might be bluffing but does not want to raise and expose their hand strength.
  • Missed straight or flush draws that, due to the paired board, now have additional possibilities of making a straight or flush.

Important Notes

A cold call on the river typically indicates a range of medium strength and carries a somewhat passive nature. Against aggressive players pre-flop and on the flop, such a cold call from the small blind may suggest an attempt to control the pot or induce the opponent to continue bluffing. If the board is paired with possible flushes or straights, the small blind's cold call could also indicate a hidden strong hand like a full house or flush, and player tendencies must be taken into account.
