UTG+1延迟持续下注(彩虹牌面)(UTG+1 Preflop Delayed C-Bet Rainbow)

After raising preflop from UTG+1, the strategy of foregoing a bet on the flop on a rainbow board and instead delaying the continuation bet to the turn.

Position and Background

UTG+1 (Under the Gun +1) is the position immediately after UTG, belonging to early position (EP). Raising from this position preflop typically represents a strong hand or an intent to isolate. A rainbow flop means the three flop cards are of different suits, reducing the possibility of flush draws. Therefore, the draw types on the flop are mainly straight draws and made hands like top pair.

Strategy Principle

A delayed c-bet refers to the preflop raiser checking the flop and then betting on the turn. Using this strategy on a rainbow flop mainly aims to:

  • Balance the checking range: Checking the flop protects weak made hands or drawing ranges, avoiding easy exploitation by consecutive bets.
  • Exploit opponents’ missed value: Many players fold to a flop c-bet, but if no bet is made on the flop, they may interpret it as weakness and call wider on the turn.
  • Control the pot: When the flop is somewhat wet (despite being rainbow, straight draws may exist), checking avoids inflating the pot in a multi-way pot while out of position.

Applicable Scenarios

  • The flop texture has weak continuity with your range, e.g., you hold high cards (like AK) and the flop comes low (e.g., 7-5-2, rainbow).
  • Opponents are likely to check behind on the flop with weak pairs or draws but may fold if a scary card comes on the turn.
  • You want to use positional advantage to gain more information on the turn.

Risks and Considerations

  • If the turn card does not improve your range, you may lose value.
  • In multi-way pots, a delayed c-bet is more vulnerable to being countered by opponents with draws or made hands, so it is better suited for heads-up or tighter situations.
  • Consider opponent tendencies: against aggressive players, a delayed bet may be exploited; against passive players, it is more effective.
